Vinita graduated in 1995 from one of the prestigious dental schools in India and came to United Kingdom in 1999. In United Kingdom she furthered her education by completing her membership exams with the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2006 and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England by assessment in 2021. She is dually qualified and holds LLM in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice from Cardiff Law School. In addition, she also holds a postgraduate Certificate in Intravenous dental sedation and a postgraduate certificate in Medical Education. She works as a SAS surgeon in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) at Ninewells hospital, Dundee. She is a recognised trainer by NHS Education for Scotland and is involved in training of dental core trainees for over 20 years. She was Education advisor for all SAS doctors and dentists in NHS Tayside for over 8 years and has just demitted from her role in October 2024.

She holds several prestigious leadership roles outside clinical work and works closely with several national leaders in education and training of doctors and dentists. She is council member of Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) and co-chairs the AoMRC SAS Committee. As part of AoMRC council, she contributes to Academy’s leading role in areas of clinical quality, public health and the education and training of doctors. She is joint Regional Director for Scotland recently appointed by the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng). She is immediate past chair of SAS Forum at RCSEng. As the chair of SAS Forum, she was an invited member of RCSEng council and served as a panel member for Kennedy Review that looked at the diversity of leadership of Royal College of Surgeons of England. Following the review, as a member of RCSEng Equality Diversity and Inclusion steering group, she was appointed as the council lead for SAS Strategy, one of the 16 recommendations from Kennedy review. This strategy was successfully launched by the college on 4 July 2023.

She is a recognised mentor by RCSEng and is passionate about equal opportunities for education and training of SAS doctors. She has been instrumental in improving the profile of SAS surgeons nationally at the college and at the Academy. Some of her past roles include being an investigator officer for doctors in difficulty, a whistle-blowing advocate, clinical audit lead, clinical governance lead and SAS Representative on BAOMS council.
